Memories of a friend……there are so many I have trouble with a starting point, they all begin with a smiling Vicki and always end with laughter.
I’ll go back to the early 60’s, she loved roller skating at her Grandmother Roxie’s Roller Ring which was across the road from Roxie’s house in Splashdam. Being a frequent face at the Roller Ring she knew everyone and was probably the best skater of them all.
In the mid 60’s we coordinated wearing our white Go-Go boots to school, a fad made popular from Nancy Sinatra song ‘These boots were made for walking’. So silly, but oh so much fun.
In 1969, we joined a science club and for the Homecoming Parade down main street Haysi our float was designed after the Apollo 11 Eagle Lunar Module, then we dressed up to ride the float as space aliens. A bit of history was the purpose but a whole lot of fun in building it was the real accomplishment.
The early 70’s brought our Junior and Senior years of high school. Days filled with Journalism class where we worked on the school newspaper and annual yearbook, prepared the gym for the Prom, which was much more enjoyable than the dance itself. Then came graduation and time for the whole gang of friends to go their separate ways.
In later years, we shared the accomplishments of our children as they grew, exchanged photos of our daughters in their prom dresses and graduations gowns, reminisced about how much had changed since our high school days, and yet how much was still the same .
It’s hard to say goodbye…..the oh so many memories will be cherish always. For all her family and friends…may each memory of her begin and end with a smile….what a blessing we all experienced with Vicki being a part of our lives.
