Obituary for Ernest L. "Gawk" Gartin

Ernest L. "Gawk"  Gartin
Clinchco, VA – Ernest L. (Gawk) Gartin, age 83 of Turner Road, passed away quietly at his home on Saturday, January 27, 2018. He was an US Army Veteran, worked in the coal mines, retired from General Motors Corporation, and was a member of the General Baptist Church in MI. He was the son of the late John and Alta Barton Gartin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca Lynn, two sisters, Annalee Gartin and Norma June Sanford and one brother, William Harold Gartin.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Thelma Gartin, four sons, Lewis Gartin of Hazel Park, MI, Scott (Patti) Gartin of Sterling Hts, MI, Bradley Gartin of Berkley, MI, and Jason (Brigette) Gartin of Warren, MI, eight grandchildren, Tricia, Daniel L, and Rebecca Gartin, Joe (Shannon) Gartin, Jon (Stasi) Gartin, Brooklyn Gartin , and Aaron Gartin, and girlfriend Lori, six great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Joe Jr., Lucky, Tessa, Jonathan, Makenzie, and , two brothers, James (Fran) Gartin of Mt. Solon, VA and Carlos Daniel (Susan) Gartin of Jerome, MI, two sisters, Helen (Ervin) Deel of Linden, TX and Nina Wood of Haysi, uncles, William Toy Barton and Harold Barton, aunts, Mary Robinson, Ellen Caudill, and Vicki Barton, and several nieces and nephews.
A song service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at Haysi Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Barton Cemetery, Haysi, VA where Dickenson County Honor Guard and VA Army National Guard Honor Team will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Lewis, Scott, Bradley, Jason, Joe, Jon, Aaron, and Daniel Lewis Gartin. Honorary pallbearers will be James Gartin, Carlos Daniel Gartin, Ervin Deel, Roger Deel, Johnny Turner, Joe Owens, Rocky Wood, and J.F. Barton.
