Haysi, VA- Sarah Estelle Owens, age 103, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the home she lived in for 72 years. Born April 15, 1914, in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Rebecca Rosebelle and William Walker Robinson. She was a much loved mother and grandmother of six generations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert Henry Owens, a son, Jack Habern Owens, a granddaughter, Deirdre Kelly, daughter-in-law, Glenna Owens, brothers and sisters, Pearl Taylor, Hibbert Robinson, Herbert “Chief” Robinson, Ella (Ellie) Ray, Kilby Robinson, Ollie Powers, Roland Robinson, Gladys Douglas, Garnette Compton, Lola Robinson, William “Billy” Robinson Jr. and Vivian Blanche Kiser. She was the last surviving member.
Survivors include seven children, Nadean (Berchie) Belcher of Haysi, Ferl Owens of Abingdon, Paul (Theda) Owens of Haysi, Darrell (Lana Arbutus) Owens of Haysi, Tana (Don) Owens of Haysi, Anna (Ken) Kausch of Pounding Mill and Joan (Dan) Yates of Cedar Bluff, 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 31great-great grandchildren and 6 great- great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church with Gary Sullivan and Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Owens Family Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at the church with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. Psalm 31:23 Her children will rise up and call her blessed.
