Birchleaf, VA- Johnny “Too Tall” Keith Coleman, age 61 of Sandlick Road, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Aubert Coleman and Lucy Viola Deel Hackney. He attended Haysi High School and was last employed as a coal miner. He coached middle school volleyball and helped with softball. He played bluegrass gospel music and was of the Old Regular Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Tony Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, two daughters, Ruby Coleman of Birchleaf and Amy Deel of Haysi, three grandsons, Braden Cooper “Bebe”, Scotty Deel II “Rufus”, Johnny Walker Deel “J.W.”, a granddaughter, Jewelia Casterline “Baby girl”, three brothers, Ernest (Barbara) Hackney of Baltimore, MD, Edgar (Betty Jo) Hackney of FL and Michael (Sue) Coleman of Birchleaf, two sisters, Joyce (Wayne) Boyd of Grundy and Edith Thomas of Birchleaf, a special cousin, who he called brother, Themis Hackney and his special buddy, Porter Wagner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Frank Newsome, Toby Bailey and David O’quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Hackney Cemetery, Hackney Ridge. Pallbearers will be Wayne Boyd, Themis Hackney, Freddy Boyd, James Gartin, Tim Thomas, Junior Hackney, Jason Coleman and Anthony Boyd. Honorary pallbearer will be Lil Henry Casterline. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and a song service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
