Little Fox, VA- John Lee Charles, age 80, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, VA. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Jeff and Arvaline Charles. He was last employed as a coal miner. Mr. Charles was also preceded in death by his brothers, Aster, Lawson, Omar and Troy Charles and Charlie Deel and a sister, Zella Owens. John was a very much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Barbara Charles, a son, Barry (Annie) Charles and daughters, Deborah Charles, Teresa O’quinn, Lisa (Wayne) Ratliff and Audrey Matney, two sisters, Dolly Chambers and Kathleen Deel, 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Eddie Newsome and David O’quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Deel-Charles Cemetery, Prater, VA. Pallbearers will be Emory Ratliff and grandsons, Jody, Christopher and Matthew Matney, Derek Owens, Adam O’quinn, Justin Ratliff and Eric Charles. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffery Charles and Marty Ratliff.
