Vansant, VA- Michael Dennis Lane, age 66 of Cranesnest Road, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Fannie Owens Lane and the late Meredith Virgil Lane. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam in 1968-1969, he was a coal miner and member of VFW 7960 and member of Coleman’s Methodist Church. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Keen Lane.
Survivors include a son, Matthew Lane of Vansant, two daughters, Amy (Randy) Stiltner of Grundy and Rebecca (Jody) Thomas of Vansant, four brothers, Larry (Wanda) Lane, Randy (Diane) Lane, Jeffery (Karen) Lane all of Vansant and Douglas (Glenda) Lane of Haysi, a sister, Brenda (Larry) Johnson of Bedford, grandchildren, Makayla Stiltner, Samantha Stiltner, Joshua Thomas and Meagan (Sidney) Stacy, great-grandsons, Chase Gilbert and Elijah Stacy, a special friend, Lynn Yates and special friend and cousin, Darrell Blankenship.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Darrell Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in Lane Cemetery, Vansant, VA. Military graveside rites will be conducted. Pallbearers will be Raythen Blankenship, Sidney Stacy, Randy Stiltner, Josh and Jody Thomas, Jerry Coleman and Craig and Nathan Lane. Honorary pallbearer will be Darrell Blankenship. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the funeral home with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. with Tim Brown, Joey Lester and Greg Fletcher officiating.
