Big Stone Gap, VA – Margaret Turner, age 70, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Born in Dickenson County she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Cretia Campbell. Margaret was a native of Dickenson County and lived in the Powell Valley section of Big Stone Gap in Wise County for the last 38 years. She attended Radford University where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was an educator in the Dickenson and Wise County Virginia school systems completing 31 years in the classroom teaching 7th grade Science and Math until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Clintwood Chapter #144 Order of the Eastern Star, and also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith and attended Turner Old Regular Baptist Church. Since her retirement she and her husband, Gary loved to travel and spend time with their dog “Pretty Girl”. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Haskel Campbell, and a sister, Veronica Edwards.
Survivors include her loving husband, Gary Howard Turner of Big Stone Gap, a brother, Norman Campbell of Big Stone Gap, two sisters, Ruby Whiddon of Melvin, FL, and Verba Fleming of Clintwood, VA, a brother-in-law, Fran (Schylor) Turner of Big Stone Gap, and a sister-in-law, Reba (Frank) Turner Childress of Clintwood. She also leaves to mourn her passing several nieces and nephews, her church family, and many longtime friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Turner Old Regular Baptist Church with Elder A.L. Yates officiating. Entombment will follow in the Morgan T. Turner Cemetery, Clinchco, VA. The family will receive friends after 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
