Obituary for Gary Randall Tackett

Haysi, VA - Gary Randall Tackett, 65 of Haysi, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was born on March 29, 1947 in Hartley, Kentucky. He graduated from Virgie High School, Pikeville College, and Morehead State University. He taught school 17 years in the Dickenson County School System before retiring due to illnesses. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a member and elder in the Big Ridge Presbyterian Church, R.P.C. He is preceded in death by his parents Ballard J. and Ora Tackett; brother Lon Curt Tackett, sister, Pat Mulkey, infant sister Bobbie Lou Tackett and infant brother Kenneth Austin Tackett.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Aline Owens Tackett, one son and daughter-in-law Garrick and Katherine Tackett, two precious grand-daughters Gabriella Marie and Guilianna Koryn Tackett of Williamsburg, Virginia; one brother, Layne (Patty) Tackett of Pikeville, Kentucky, two sisters, Betty (James Homer Parsons) of Virgie, Kentucky and Kitty (John) Ray of Clayton, N. C.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Melissa and Walter Belcher of Wise, Virginia; sister-in-law, Fran Tackett of Morgantown, WV, brother-in-law, Kenneth Mulkey of Clarksville, TN, father-in-law and mother-in law Wiley, Jr. and Vera Owens of Haysi, Virginia and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. at Big Ridge Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 23, 2013 with Pastor Richard Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Owens-Tackett Cemetery just past the church on the hill. Military gravesite rites will be performed. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Parsons, Chad Hardin, Walter Belcher, Jeff Tackett, Sam Mulkey, and John Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Wiley Owens, Jr. and James Homer Parsons. A 6:00 p.m. visitation on Friday for family and friends will be at the Big Ridge Presbyterian Church followed by a service at 7 o'clock. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
