Birchleaf, VA – Curtis Ray Wampler, age 74 of Rakes Ridge Road went to be with the lord Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, TN. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Frank and Myrtle Wampler. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of Haysi Church of Christ for 50 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Wampler; a brother, Cecil Wampler and a sister, Shellby Jean Davis.
Survivors include three sons, Mike (Fran) Wampler of Birchleaf, VA, Tim (Betty) Wampler and Dale (Melinda) Wampler both of Haysi, VA; three grandchildren, Doug Wampler, Matthew Wampler and Magen Wampler; great-grandchildren, Charlie Ray Wampler, Brooklyn Lee Wampler, Skylar Rain, Tyler Kain and brothers; two brothers, Jimmy Wampler of Abingdon , VA and Bill Wampler of Roanoke, VA; two sisters, Linda Wolford of Hurley, VA and Brenda Edwards of Harpersville, AL and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Haysi Funeral Home with Jerry Edwards officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Deel Cemetery, Rakes Ridge. Pallbearers will be Brandon Willis, David Lee Davis, Terry Hall, Roy Junior Wampler, Doug Wampler, Matthew Wampler and Richard Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Wampler, Jamie Willis and Johnny Davis. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service on Thursday evening.
