CLINCHCO-Mary Clydette Owens age 73 of Buttercup Hill passed away, January 29, 2023, at Nova Health Care, Weber City VA. Born in Dickenson County she was the daughter of the late Clyde Mondrage and Mary E. Rodefer. She was a member of Clinchco Freewill Baptist Church, a homemaker and previously employed with Clintwood Garment, Dickenson Community Hospital cafeteria, Breaks Park and with Dickenson County Head Start as a bus driver.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Aster Owens, granddaughter, Chasity Hope Edwards, two sisters Verna L. Lambert and Wanda Whittaker, three brothers, David Overcast, Robert Rodefer, Jr., and Mark Rodefer.
Survivors include her daughter Jessica (Jeff) Hackney, Haysi, VA, seven grandchildren, Cody, Caleb, Colton, Claudie, Chandler, Christopher, and Cory Edwards, five sisters, Sally Snapp, DaAnna Overcast, Rhonda Overcast, Mary Rodefer, Robin Rodefer, one brother, Robert Whittaker, special cousin Myrlene O’Quin and twenty-seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Haysi Funeral Home with Johnny Turner and Willard James Holbrook officiating. Burial will follow in the Turner Cemetery, Clinchco, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the funeral service.
