Haysi, VA – Linda Jerlene Compton, age 82 of Owens Branch, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022 at her home. Born in Dickenson County, she was the daughter of the late Whitten and Della Owens Yates. She was a homemaker and a member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church. She loved the church and her church family, along with singing, cooking and caring for the needs of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters Teresa Lane and Charlotte Yates.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Homer Compton, one daughter Jennifer (Rick) Owens, Haysi, VA, six grandchildren, Jessica (Joey) Owens, Amanda (Chad) Conaway, Amber (Brandon) Ross, Jared (Kimberly) Owens, Cody (Jazmine) Yates, Jeremy (Sarah) Yates, and 18 great-grandchildren. Six siblings Chet (Lucy) Yates, Janice Gibson, Loretta (Lowell) Adkins, Dorthula (Toy) Looney, Danny (Joan) Yates and Peggy (Randall) Deel also survive.
Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Toy Looney, Denny Deel, Mark Justice and Roger Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Compton Cemetery, Old Greenbrier Road. Pallbearers will be Cody Yates, Jeremy Yates, Jared Owens, Joey Owens, Chad Conaway and Brandon Ross. An evening service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders, Lloyd “Popeye” Brown, Jerry Damron, Larry Puckett and Jerry Overstreet officiating.
