Obituary for Alvin Blankenship

Haysi, VA – Alvin Blankenship, age 78, of Greenbrier Road, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at his residence. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Nickey and Margie Coleman Blankenship. He was a retired coal miner and attended Greenbrier Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Bodo, Kelly, Willard, and his wife Bonnie, and Wilburn (Ruth) Blankenship; sisters; Birchie and her husband Charlie Deel, Emagean and her first husband, Archie and second husband Trinkle Deel; Delphia (Johnnie Mullins), Patsy (Freddie Hancock), and Mary (Robert Stiltner), two nieces, Arlene Hancock and Rose Marie Deel, four nephews, Bobby Hancock, Bubbles Deel, Edward Blankenship, and Timmie Coleman, and three other brothers-in-law, Lath Coleman, Pat O’Brien, and Carter Deel.
Survivors include his wife, Kattie, two precious sons, Mark Alvin (Geneva) Blankenship and Robert Matthew Blankenship, five grandchildren; Morgan Andrew Davis, Petra Jade Blankenship, Autumn Rose Blankenship, Destiny Phipps, and Paeton Matthew Blankenship, a sister, Sarah (Roby) Deel, a brother, Freddie Lee Blankenship, three sisters-in-law, Jerrell Coleman, Alma O’Brien, and Patty Owens, and a special brother-in-law, Curtis (Gail) Deel and he leaves numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2022 at Haysi Funeral Home with Curtis Deel officiating. Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers will be Morgan Davis, Paeton Blankenship, Mark Blankenship, Matthew Blankenship, Jeff Deel, Clayton Deel Jr., Denny Deel, and Chad Kelly. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Kelly, Clinard Coleman, Daniel O’quinn, Gary Viers, and other friends or family who wish to help.
