Coeburn, VA- Joseph Aster Counts, of Dr. Ralph Stanley Highway, Coeburn, VA passed away on June 5, 2021 at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN. He was the son of the late Jennings and Zora Kiser Counts. He was of the Baptist faith, an army veteran and last employed as a coal miner. He was a member of UMWA Local 2274.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Wayne Counts and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Counts, daughter Tina (Emerson) Yates, son, Keith (Misty) Counts, three sisters, Evelyn Perrigan, Ruby Locklear, Madge Perrigan, two brothers, Buford Counts and Bob Kiser and five grandchildren, Pamela Mitchell, Joey (Nikki) Sykes, Austin Counts, Timothy Counts and Kelly Sykes.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Haysi Funeral Home with Pastor, Tommy Kiser officiating. Burial will follow in the Sutherland Cemetery, Nancy Hollow, Haysi, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
