Obituary for Pridemore Viers

Haysi, Va. – Pridemore Viers, age 96 of Backbone Ridge, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 surrounded by his family. Born on March 1, 1924, he was the son of the late R.D. and Vadna Viers. He was a member of Little Sarah Old Regular Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 41 years. Pridemore retired as the owner of Viers Appliance and after retirement a bus driver in Dickenson County School System for many years. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his six sisters: Edith Viers, Patsy Viers, Trula Colley, Maggie Singleton Rasnake, Elsie Compton and Olive Rose Watson. Three brothers: Walter, Charlie and Johnny Viers and his son-in-law Ronny Turner.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 74 years, Laura Jane Woods Viers. Two daughters: Gloria Turner and Charlotte (Gilmer) Childress, both of Haysi. One granddaughter, Heather (Mark) Blair of Whitesburg, KY. One grandson, Jordan Childress (Jessica) of Winston-Salem, NC. One great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Davis of Whitesburg, KY. Two step great-grandchildren, Zane (Whitney) Blair and Morgan Blair, both of Whitesburg, KY. One step great great-grandchild, Atlas Blair. Two sisters: Fannie (Milton) O’Quinn and Mary (Palmer) Woods, both of Haysi.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Roger Coleman, Earl Dean Yates and Mark Justice officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 13 in R.D. Viers Cemetery on Backbone Ridge. Pallbearers will be Gilmer Childress, Jordan Childress, Donald Viers, Keith Woods, Kent Woods, Mark Blair, Zane Blair and Kennith Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Little Sarah Church.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home prior to funeral service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Sarah Church 1491 Backbone Ridge Haysi, VA 24256 in Pride’s memory.
