Clinchco, VA- Virginia Gladys Turner, age 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 5, 2020 at her home on Backbone Ridge. Born November 15, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Harriet Sykes. She was a homemaker and loved country, bluegrass and gospel music. She was of the Old Regular Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Fred Turner “Pud”, a son, Gregory Todd Turner, brothers, Frank, Burns, Leonard, Clayton and Junior, sisters, Pearl Sutherland, Marie Cress and Trula Elkins.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Turner (Deb) of Clinchco, sons, Kimble Turner (Sherry) of Birchleaf, Phillip Turner (Marilyn) of Clinchco, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Kathy Turner Rose, special dog, “Baby” and a host of special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Mike Stanley officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at W.L. Edwards Cemetery, Clinchco, VA. Pallbearers will be Aron, Garon, Justin, Ryan and Bryant Turner, Steven Hale and Matt Stacy. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Turner, Kelly Viers, Mike Perrigan, Tim Lyall, Goobs and Gary Turner. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to funeral services. A special thank you to her caregivers, Tammy Wampler, Jessica Stiltner, Amber Rose and Debby Turner.
