Haysi, VA- Scotty Lee Yates, age 55, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Hansel and Nella Fay O’quinn Yates. He was a 1984 Grundy High School graduate and was last employed at a meat factory. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Joe Yates, a nephew, Dominic Yates, maternal grandparents, George Marion and Phoeby Deel O’quinn and paternal grandparents, Rachel and Dolphus Yates.
Survivors include sisters, Marcella Jean Yates, Tina Fay (Brady) Fuller and Amanda Elizabeth (Manus) Musick, brothers, Dennis Ray Yates, Timmy (Robin) Yates and Hansel Yates Jr., several nieces and nephews and special friend, Wesley Conaway.
A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Yates Cemetery, Haysi, VA. with Darrell Thacker officiating. Family, friends and Wesley Conaway will serve as pallbearers.
