Vansant, VA- Edgkar “Mae” O’Quinn, age 87, gained her Heavenly wings, Friday, January 24, 2020 at the home of her daughter, Mary Davis in Lebanon, VA following a lenghthy illness. Born August 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Randolph and Mary (Dales) Owens. She was last employed at Russell Prater Elementary, working in the cafeteria. Mae enjoyed gardening, canning, spending time with her family and attending church whenever possible. She had been a member of Sandlick Primitive Baptist Church for 50+years. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rice O’Quinn, 2 sons-in-law, Tommy Deel and Roger Deel, a great-grandchild, Colton Perkins, 3 sisters, Lucy, Stella and Vinnie, 5 brothers, Jim, Harrie, Sim, Burton and Alex. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those left to mourn her loss are her nine children, Cleo (Max) Blevins of Piney Flats, TN, Mary Davis of Lebanon, Kathy Deel of Vansant, Greta (Michael) Cook of Honaker, Bernice (Alcie) O’Quinn of Vansant, Rosa (Johnny) Farmer of Honaker, Jimmy (Teresa) O’Quinn of Vansant, Daniel (Lisa) O’Quinn of Oxford, NC and Melissa (Duane) Rasnake of Honaker, 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Special thanks to nurses, Beth Dillon and Nikki McNew for their loving care during her illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders, Jim O’Quinn, Roger Fuller, Shawn Dotson, Brian Moore and Noah Kim Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Owens Cemetery, Vansant, VA. Pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons and Ronnie Counts.
