Obituary for Garmon Bruce Sutherland
Haysi, VA- Garmon Bruce Sutherland was born June 5, 1959 to his loving parents, Bob and Betty Sutherland who preceded him in death. Bruce left us January 20, 2020 at Big Stone Gap Hospital making his stay here on earth with us 60 years and 7 months. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Keaton Sutherland, his grandparents, Garmon and Estelle Sutherland, Earl and Gladys Sutherland, step-grandfather, Hadley Edwards and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Bruce is survived by aunts, Emma (Jim) O’Quinn and Susie Sutherland Craft, an uncle, Clayton Davis, a host of friends, Larry Viers and Bobby Viers and family, Danny Mondrage, Dave and Brenda Davis, Scotty and Michelle Owens and sons, cousins, Missy O’Quinn (Tim) Steele, Sandy (Jerry) Thomas, Melissa Mosher, Vickie Compton, Martin (Patsy) Jansons, Lisa Gray, Becky (Gary) Smith, Steve Davis, Beth (Jimmy) Ellis, John (Stephanie) Davis, Tim (Sondra) Sutherland, Dave (Melanie) Sutherland and other cousins.
Bruce was a graduate of Haysi High School and always loved Haysi and the people here. He had been employed by Jim O’Quinn Ford Inc., Turner Chevrolet, Ramey Chevrolet and Johnson Chevrolet, Inc. His last few years had been difficult for him with so many challenges but through it all he remained the sweet, loving and cheerful person he had always been. We love him and miss him but know he is in a far better place. Sleep on Bruce, we will never forget you.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Haysi Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 12:00 and service at 1:00 p.m. with Elders Jim Duty, Roger Rose and Garnell Gilbert. Burial will follow at Haysi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be L.H. Edwards, Larry Viers, Danny Mondrage, Scotty Owens and sons, Jaren, Jarrett and Caden Owens, Jerry Thomas, Dave Davis, Tim Steele and David Powers. Honorary pallbearers are John Johnson and Johnson Chevrolet employees, Shamberlee Rose Ratliff of Social Services and the staff of Heritage Hall.
