Bristol, VA – Darrell Wayne Thomas, age 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 23, 2019 at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren, MI. Darrell was born May 6, 1952 to Ira “Slim” and Bertha Thomas in Clinchco, VA. Darrell was a member of the Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church in Haysi, VA and a member of UMWA Local 2274. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert “Bob” Thomas and James “Jim” Thomas, and his father-in-law, Robert Gilbert.
He is survived by his spouse of 42 years Katherine “Kathy” Lee Thomas of Bristol, VA; daughter, Lucinda Ann Thomas of Gate City, VA; son, Robert Brandon Thomas and wife Tiffany Leann of Bristol, VA; and granddaughter, Lilianna Leann Thomas. In addition, Darrell is also survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis Gilbert; six brothers and their spouses, Bill and Nancy Thomas, Tim and Shirley Thomas, Jerry and Judy Thomas, Kenneth and Diane Thomas, Gary and Mickie Thomas, and Tommy and Doris Thomas; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Thomas and Jackie Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2019 at Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with funeral service starting at 7:00. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 27 at the Gilbert-Fink Cemetery, Tarpon, VA at 12:00 noon. Family and friends will meet at the church at 11:30 a.m. to follow in procession to the cemetery. Officiating ministers will be Danny Sluss, Darrell Milgrim, and Willis Osborne.
