Clintwood, VA- Verlin Deel, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2019 at his home. Born Feb. 9, 1936, he was a son of the late Alden and Lilia Ann Charles Deel. He was a retired miner of 37 yrs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and singing. He was a talented mechanic, carpenter and welder. He loved the Lord and was a member of Buffalo Freewill Baptist church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Clovis and Tolley Deel, sisters, Estella O’Quinn and Margie Lowe, son-in-law, Randall Tiller and great-granddaughter, Charlie Brooke Woods.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Thelma Sutherland Deel, two sons and three daughters, Verlin Jr. Deel and wife, Kitty, Travis Deel and wife, Teresa, both of Haysi, Dianna Stapleton of Clintwood, Bernice Tiller of FL, Vonnetia Mullins and husband, Andy of Abingdon, 8 grandchildren, Jason Deel and wife, Shawndale, Audrea O’Quinn and husband, Jarrod, Justin Deel and wife Cassandra, Andrea Mullins, Rachel Woods and husband, Kent, Vanessa Anderson and husband Ryan, David Tiller and wife, Brianna, 15 great-grandchildren, Skyler, Katelyn, Courtney and Chloe Deel, Dalton Woods, Peyton and Gauge Ratliff, Hunter and Julie Edwards, Waylon, Trace, Baylee and Drake Anderson, Everlee O’Quinn, Maverick and Roselyn Tiller, sisters, Geraldine Epling and Ruby Deel and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2019 at Haysi Funeral Home with Lester Mullins, James Sweeney and Verlin Deel Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Alden Deel Family Cemetery, Birchleaf, VA. Pallbearers will be Jarrod O’Quinn, Ryan Anderson, Kent Woods, David Tiller, Justin, Jason and Dalton Deel. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a song service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, www.LBDA.org
