Obituary for Clinton Swiney

Haysi, VA- Clinton Swiney, age 75 of Painter Lick Branch, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. Born in Elkhorn, KY, he was a son of the late Clarence and Mary Mullins Swiney. He was last employed as a coal miner and was a member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church since October 18, 1992. He loved to fish and work in the garden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Swiney, brothers Clifford, Donald and Spencer Swiney and a sister Ota Wood.
Surviors include a daughter, Melissa (Jeffrey) Yates of Claypool Hill and a son, Scotty (Regina) Swiney of Haysi, grandchildren, Travis (Staci) Swiney and Courtney Swiney both of Haysi, a great-grandson, Noah Scott, brothers, Marvin, Dallas and Terry Swiney and sisters, Wanda Keen and Margie Howard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Roger Coleman and Toy Looney officiating. Burial will follow in Parrot Deel Cemetery, Greenbrier Road, Haysi, VA. with Elder Andy Deel officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be special friend Lester Yates, Lincare, ICU unit at Johnston Memorial, Forensenics Dialysis Center, nurses of Special Care and Freda Powers. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at Haysi Funeral Home with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. with Elders Eddie Newsome, Danny Yates and Scotty Swiney officiating, and an evening service at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist church. with an evening service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
