Sally Fern Sykes Turner
Haysi, VA – Sally Fern Sykes Turner, age 79 of Crooked Branch, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center. Born in Haysi, she was a daughter of the late Earl L. and Robie Mullins Sykes. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith and was last employed with the Dickenson County School system for 22 ½ years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters; Eula Geromette, Trula Wittington, and Beulah Collins, and a brother, Earl Sykes.
Survivors include her husband, Carroll Turner, a son, Gary (Vickie) Turner of Haysi, a daughter, Angie (Randall) Slemp of Castlewood, VA, grandchildren; Matthew (Jeniffer) Slemp, Dylan Slemp, Dusty (Jonathan) O’quinn, Casey (Misty) Turner, Kayla (Nathan) Coleman, and Rachel (Michael) Robinson, eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Peggy Barton of Bee, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Noah Kim Edwards, Garnell Gilbert, and Jim O’quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Viers Cemetery, Clinchco, VA. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Slemp, Hank Viers, Benny Stallard, Wayne McCowan, Bob Turner, and Phillip Turner. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24 at the funeral home where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Elders Brian Moore and Jim O’quinn.
