Haysi, VA- Irene Edwards, age 86, of Lick Creek Road, received her gift of eternal life at her home on Christmas Day. Not only did she receive but she gave her family gifts of love, peace and joy. Her life of 86 years was devoted to her husband and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas and their only son, Garry, brothers, Ralph, Essie, Willard, Raleigh, Alfred and Shirley Compton and sisters, Norma and Polly Jane.
She leaves behind her devoted family, Sandra Marshall and husband, Jimmy of Haysi, VA, Connie Swiney and husband, Rodney of Jeffersonville, KY, Amy Gobble and husband, Jeff of Glade Spring, VA and a sister, Thelma Maynard of Ripley, TN, grandchildren, Austin (Paige) Swiney, Nick Swiney, Ashley Swiney, Dallas and Laura Beth Gobble and Mackenzie Edwards. A dear friend once said, it is not what people think, but what God knows that counts, with that we leave her in the hands of our Lord and Savior, and as Mom said as she was leaving this world, “I am in good hands, precious Jesus.”
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Roger Fuller officiating. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Friday prior to funeral services. Graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Holly Ray Edwards Cemetery, Birchleaf, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
