Obituary for Wiley Clark Owens Jr.

Haysi, VA- Wiley Clark Owens Jr., age 91, was born May 6, 1926, and was called to be with his Lord on November 1, 2017. He was the son of the late Wiley Clark Owens and Elizabeth Cantrell Owens. In his later years, he retired from Pittston Coal Company and enjoyed farming full time. He served three stints in the United States Army. These included serving under General Patton during two tours in World War II, also one tour in the Korean War. He served as a ruling Elder in the Big Ridge Presbyterian Church for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Ira, George, Willie and Marvin Owens, three sisters, Nellie Hall, Golda Blankenship and Margie Wooten, three half-brothers, Frank, Jessie and Howard Owens, four half-sisters, Sarah Gilbert, Simelda Owens, Orpha Owens and Mary Owens and a son-in-law, Gary Tackett.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Vera Owens, two daughters, Aline Tackett of Haysi and Melissa (Walter) Belcher of Wise, three grandchildren, Garrick (Katie) Tackett of Williamsburg, Lindsay (John) Duffy of Simpsonville, SC and Lauryn Belcher of Wise, five great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Guilianna, Gabriel and Genna Tackett and Emmeryn Duffy, two brothers-in-law, Duster (Sue) Willis of Ocala, FL and Lewis (Barbara) Owens of Haysi.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Big Ridge Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ross Lindley officiating. Burial will follow in Tackett-Owens Cemetery, Big Ridge. Pallbearers will be Walter Belcher, Jervie Wiley Owens, Matthew Owens, Danny Sargent, Bennie Sutherland and Kelly Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Owens andTroy O’quinn.
