Vansant, VA- Mazel “Jean” Deel, age 81 of Bear Branch Road, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at her home. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Lucy Deel. She was last employed as a driver for the Four County Transit. She was a homemaker and member of Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius, three sisters, Clara Chapin, Birdie Vosberg and Hazel Kelly and a brother, Otis Deel.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Delores) Deel of Grundy and Blaine (Regina) Deel of Haysi, two daughters, Karen (Joe) Christian of Vansant and Tammy (Jimmy) Yates of Haysi, grandchildren, Christopher Deel, Joshua Yates, Zachary Yates, Brooke Deel, Tiffany Deel and McKenzie Deel, three sisters, Iris Bishop of Austin, TX, Betsy Crabtree of Claypool Hill and Draxie Kennedy of Grundy and a brother, Lester Deel of Springfield, MI.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Buster Mullins, Frank Newsome, David O’quinn and Jim Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Bart Deel Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
