Clintwood, VA – Richard Delano Flint, age 81, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. Born in Letcher County, KY, he was a son of the late Lester and Margaret Sanders Flint. He was an US Army Veteran of Korea and Occupation Force of Berlin, a coal miner and of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Flint, a son, Patrick Flint, and a brother, James “Jimmy” Flint.
Survivors include a daughter, Mona (Ervin) Turner of Clintwood, a son, Michael Flint of Jenkins, KY, a daughter-in-law, Melissa Flint Davis of Clintwood, grandchildren, Shane Turner, Jayde (Jaydester) Turner, Chelsie Turner, Tyler Davis, Kayla Flint and Hannah Flint, great-grandchildren, Gavin, Elle Fayth and Connor, a brother, Robert “Bob” Flint of Tamaqua, PA, a cousin who was like a brother, Chester (Ernestine “Tean”) Flint of Burdine, KY, sisters-in-law, Irene Flint of Denoon, Scotland, and Ruby Colley of Clintwood, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Garnell Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Phipps Cemetery, Clintwood, VA. VA Army National Guard and Dickenson County Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Ervin Turner, Shane Turner, Dustin Moore, Michael Sutherland, Michael Dunn, Byron Edwards, Chris Gilbert, Kevin Flint, also special pallbearers, great-grandkids. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Davis, Corbett McCowan and Chester Flint. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, at Haysi Funeral Home.
