Bernice Yates
Haysi, VA – Bernice Yates, age 66, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late William Arnold and Mirtie Irene Yates Cook. She was retired from Buchanan County Schools as a payroll clerk and was a member of Greenbrier Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Yates, a daughter, Angela (Eddie) Conaway of Haysi, two grandchildren, Parker and Peyton Conaway, two sisters, Sharon Hill of Vansant, VA and Jatana (Rammie) Brown of Abingdon, VA, two brothers, Larry Cook of Vansant and Donald (Karen) Cook of Clinchco, VA, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 at Haysi Funeral Home with Russell Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in the O’quinn-Deel Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers will be Michael Cook, Matthew Cook, Greg Cook, Norman Hill, Adam Cook, Josh Cook, Phillip McConville, Chad Hess, Kent Goodman, and Shawn Shortridge. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the funeral home where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Eddie Street.
