Lavonnie Edwards Owens Yates
Birchleaf, VA – Lavonnie Edwards Owens Yates, age 90, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Clintwood, VA. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Arvie Sr. and Vernie Counts Edwards. She was last employed as a cook at Haysi High School and was a member of Sulpher Springs Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Polly Edwards, Cotella Owens, and Marie Arrington, a brother, Arvie Edwards Jr., and her husband, William Walter Owens, Jr.
Survivors include three sons, David (Dorothy) Owens of Bristol, VA, Walter Zane Owens of Clintwood, and Daniel Joseph Owens of Council, VA, two brothers, Roscoe (Joyce Nell) Edwards of Birchleaf and Gary (Ruth) Edwards of Haysi, VA, 9 grandchildren; Lisa, Brian, Jeremiah, Suzanne, Charlie, Kristy Julie, Mollie, and Lilleigh, 8 great-grandchildren; Zachariah, Elizabeth, Brice, Morgan, Sara, Mason, Simon, and Sierra, and 1 great-great-grandchild, Jaxson, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends that knew and loved her.
Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Sulpher Springs Primitive Baptist Church with Elders George Ben Combs, Victor Church, Ked Stacy, and Henry Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Sutherland Cemetery, Lick Creek. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14 at the church where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
