Betty Sue Yates Swiney
Haysi, VA – Betty Sue Swiney, age 69, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 at the home of her son. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Zona Compton Yates. She attended Grundy High School and graduated from Elkhorn City High School and worked at Island Creek Coal Company and Eastern Isles Garment Co. She loved yard sales, talking, decorating, and spending time with family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Eugene Swiney, a brother, Earl (Ruby) Yates, and sister, Lola (Thurman) Deel.
Survivors include a son, Gregory (Vicki) Swiney of Clintwood, her grandchildren, the joy of her life, Spencer and LonnieJo Swiney of Clintwood, a step-granddaughter, Brandi (BJ) Garrison of Wise, VA, sisters, Geraldine (Frank) Newsome of Haysi and Shirley (George) Baldwin of Clintwood, a brother, James Yates of Haysi, a special friend, Steve Barton of Haysi, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Frank Newsome and Rev. Lester Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Willie Yates Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers will be Frankie Dean Newsome, Randall Lockhart, Spencer Swiney, Benny Yates, Randy Yates, and Lindy Deel. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the funeral home where an evening service will be held at 7:00p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
