Birchleaf, VA – Susie Owens Conaway, age 67, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at the home of her loving brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Sandra Owens. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Harrison and Snoda O’quinn Owens. She was a member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist church for 30 years and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Howard Conaway, brothers; John Henry, Doley Lawson, William Trinkle, and Vernon Lawrence Owens, and sisters; Vandora Owens, Stella Owens, and Opal Garrett.
Survivors include brothers; Dock (Eva Lou) Owens of Haysi, VA, Phillip (Sandra) Owens of Birchleaf, and Burlin (Sandy) Owens of Birchleaf, sisters; Imel Owens of Haysi, Sylvia (Arthur) Turner of Coeburn, VA, Roxie Jackson of Davenport, VA, Vonda (Mike) Shortridge of Birchleaf, and Hilda (Earl) Boyd of Birchleaf, a sister-in-law, Ella Owens, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Mark Justice, Roger Coleman, Carl Mullins, and Jimmie Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Conaway Cemetery, Birchleaf. Pallbearers will be Brother Clinton Arrington, Jr., Robert Boyd, Eric Owens, Derick Jackson, Gregory Jackson, and Tony Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan Boyd, Logan Boyd, Calyb Boyd, Lucas Owens, Lachlan Stiltner, Declan Stiltner, and Brock Ramey. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4 at the church where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
