Vansant, VA- Sidney Curtis Boyd, age 90, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, VA. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rachel Boyd. He was a faithful Deacon and longtime member of Bethlehem Old Regular Baptist Church, a retired miner and UMWA member (Harmon local). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Lee Boyd, daughters-in-law, Judy and Linda Boyd, a son-in-law, Raymond McCoy, grandsons, Larry David “Fred” Boyd and Michael Boyd, brothers Whetsel and Tivis Boyd, sisters, Lydia, Annie, Tazzie, Lexie Boyd and Mae Deel.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Opal Boyd, three daughters, Norma Jean (Gene) Looney, Wanda McCoy and Martha (Steve) Deel all of Russell Prater, four sons, Kenneth Boyd, Eddie (Sandy) Boyd, Steve (Penny) Boyd and Larry (Zella) Boyd all of Russell Prater, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Rose Nell Colley of Russell Prater.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Haysi Funeral Home with Jim Blankenship, David O’quinn, Buster Mullins, Eddie Newsome and Jamie McClanahan officiating. Burial will follow in Boyd Family Cemetery, Russell Prater, VA. Pallbearers will be Brandon Bennett, Bryan Bennett, Cody Mullins, Justin Boyd, Jonnie Childress, Dillion Tiller, Austin Looney, Logan Deel, Trevor Deel and Russell Deel. Honorary pallbearers will be Clint Sutherland and staff.
