Obituary for Emit Allen Kennedy

Emit Allen  Kennedy
Coeburn, VA – Emit Allen Kennedy, age 96 of Little Caney Ridge, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at his residence. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Bennie and Lula Owens Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was an U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII, an auto mechanics teacher in Dickenson County schools, a retired coal miner and member of UMWA, a member of VFW and a lifetime member of American Legion, a past member of DEA, VEA, and National Education Association. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Mars and Ray Kennedy, sisters, Aurora Stanley and Trula Hobbs, and a son-in-law, Bentrus Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Kennedy, three daughters: Iris Waade of Wayzata, MN, Karen Kennedy of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Judy Smith of Abingdon, VA, sons: Ron (Ginger) Kennedy of Clintwood, VA, Benny (Zeldra) Kennedy of Caney Ridge, and Parkis (Jennifer) Kennedy of Bristol, VA, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Rugsby Church with Robert Phipps officiating. Entombment will follow in the Rugsby Cemetery, Caney Ridge. Military graveside rites will be performed. Pallbearers will be Benjamin, David, and Joseph Kennedy, Darren Smith, Anthony Stanley, and Sam Mullins. Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Waade, Bryan Smith, Jack Stanley, and Kevin Kennedy. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the church where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Gary Stanley. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rugsby Church or Rugsby Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
