Obituary for Fred Phillips

Clintwood, VA – William Garland “Fred” Phillips, age 82 passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born August 24, 1933 in Dante, VA he was a son of the late Christopher Columbus (CC) and Annie Francis Bays Phillips. He was an US Army Veteran, a retired miner, a member of Emmanuel Old Regular Baptist Church and a member of Clintwood Masonic Lodge #66. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gose, Jack, Lee, Calvin, Mack and Frank; sisters, Beulah, Hazel, Patsy Marie and Anna Ruth and several step-siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lura June Phillips; daughters, Pamela (Barry) Compton of Meadowview, VA, Regina (Mike) Powers, Angela (Mike) Stidham and Lorie (Cliff) Phipps all of Clintwood, VA; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life; Amanda (Eric) Smith, Josh Compton, Heather (John) Rasnick, Brittney (Corey) Turner, Kayla Deel, Rhylee Stidham, Camron Phipps and Lorin Phipps; great-grandchildren- Maylan Smith, Elin Rasnick, Millie Rasnick, Michael Larkin Turner and one due in June 2016, and several special in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who were very dear to his heart.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Eddie Newsome officiating. Entombment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Thomas Bulle, Dr. Craig Graul, Heather Blair, FNP, Emergency Department Staff at Dickenson Community Hospital, Benny Stanley and John Turner. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home where a Masonic service and song service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with David O’quinn and Lloyd Deel.
