Everette Basil  Looney
Breaks, VA – Everett Basil Looney, age 81, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at his home in Buchanan County from an extended illness. He was the son of the late William Hobert Looney and Ida Mae (Bailey) Looney, born January 27th 1934. He lived most of his life in Breaks, VA, and was married to the late Geneva (Stiltner) Looney. His profession was in the Coal Industry. He was a member of the Little Jocie Old Regular Baptist Church for 48 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Geneva Stiltner Looney, as well as two brothers, Blaine Looney and Theodore Looney of Breaks.
Survivors include three daughters; Sharon Rena, married to Carlos O’quinn of Breaks, Patricia Ann married to Bobby Shortt of Johnson City, TN, and Cynthia Lynn Looney of Harvest, AL, three granddaughters, Lisa Ann, married to Matthew McNew of Knoxville, TN, Hannah Leigh, married to Stephen Dixon of Johnson City, and Shanna LeAnn, married to Christopher “Myles” Barr of Leeds, England, two step granddaughters, Carla Rena, married to Denny Sloan of High Point, NC and Lori Kurston, married to Shaun Sloan of Bluefield, WV, two great-grandchildren, Blake and Eden McNew, three step-great-grandchildren, Cawyn and Hagen Sloan, and Derek Crom Sloan, a sister, Chloe Breeding Looney and three brothers, Clarence Looney, Roy Looney, and Toy Looney of Breaks.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Little Jocie Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Jimmy Amos, Glenn Hall, Mark Justice, Toy Looney, Lance Looney, Ricky Mullins, Jerry Overstreet, and James Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Colley Cemetery, Breaks. Pallbearers will be Chris Barr, Stephen Dixon, Alan Looney, Erdil Jack Looney, Dwayne Looney, Matt McNew, Randy Looney, and Ricky Don Looney. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Little Jocie Old Regular Baptist Church and Special Care Home Health and Hospice Care Staff. Special thank you to Bonnie Deel, Tammy Ratliff, and JoAnn Mounts, Haysi Drug Staff, Stone Mtn Health Clinic Staff, and special thank you to Malena Mullins. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home where a service will be held at 7 p.m. The family will also receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 21, at Little Jocie Old Regular Baptist Church with a service at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
