Haysi, VA – Karen Dawn Yates, age 66, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center. Born in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Clell and Anna Bell Lee Toney. She was a homemaker and member of Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Chrystal Able.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Yates, two daughters, Tammy (David) Mondrage of Clinchco, VA, and Paula (Nicholas) McCarl of Butler, PA, a son, Clinton (Lori) Yates of Haysi, two brothers, Leonard Gene Toney of Richmond, VA and Steven B. Toney of Waynesboro, VA, three sisters, Elaine Lawhorne of Waynesboro, Nora Graves of Richmond, and Iris Gunter of Staunton, VA, grandchildren, Zachary Keith Mondrage, Erica McCarl, Cole Yates, Hannah Mondrage, Chance Yates, Cage Yates, and Christian Yates, and a great-grandchild, Lauren Yates.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Jeff Tiller officiating. Burial will follow in the J.S. Willis Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be David Mondrage, Clinton Yates, and Nicholas McCarl. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22 at the funeral home where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
