Obituary for Vernie Catherine Yates (Coleman)

Vernie Catherine  Yates (Coleman)
Haysi, VA – Vernie Catherine Coleman Yates, age 73 of Old Greenbrier Road passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at her home. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Mindy Coleman. A member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church, she was a seamstress for fourteen years working for Eastern Isles and Clintwood Garment. Her work continued at home after retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harold Yates; a daughter, Nadine Yates; three brothers, George W. Coleman, Emory Coleman and Sherman Coleman; and three sisters, Vandora Boyd, Evelyn Coleman and Pearlie Jane Coleman.
Survivors include two sons, Elmer (Lisa) Yates and Billy Joe Yates, both of Haysi, VA; grandchildren, Cody (Kendra Thomas) Yates and Amy (Scott) Rasnake, both of Haysi, VA; brothers, David (Marlene) Coleman, Casby (Annie) Coleman and Bernice Coleman, all of Haysi, VA; and sisters, Orpha Yates of North Carolina, Lexie (Johnny) Hicks of Bradshaw, WV, Sylvia (Ivan) Boyd of Concord, VA and Essie Margaret Coleman of Haysi, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Andy Deel, Toy Looney, Roger Coleman and Mark Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the Yates Family Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be Brett Coleman, Trevor Coleman, Cody Yates, Scott Rasnake, Brian Hess, Daniel Nuckles, Nick Travis and Alfred Yates. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
