Haysi, VA- Brady Eugene “Gene” Counts, age 84 of Dark Hollow, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Lily Smith Counts. He was a retired coal miner, a member of UMWA local 7170 and a member of Breeding Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Stanford, Howard, Lacy and Homer.
Survivors include his wife, Gaynell Counts, two sons, Ronald (Jean) Counts of New Hampton, Iowa and Jimmy (Sherry) Counts of Haysi and a daughter, Rhonda (Kenny) Childress of Haysi, grandchildren, Ron Jr. (Beth) Counts, Terry (Stephanie) Counts, Matthew (Bridgette) Childress, Craig (Rachel) Childress and Austin Counts, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jim Duty, Roger Fuller and Noah Kim Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Cemetery, Castlewood, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. with Elders Roy Adams, Joe Edwards and Corbin Hampton officiating.
