Haysi,VA- Mapel Belcher Edwards, age 89, passed away on March 13, 2015.She was born on January 16, 1926 in Haysi, Virginia to parents John R. and Margaret Boyd Belcher. She lived in Florida for 42 years then relocated to make her home in Haysi. She returned to Green Cove Springs for health reasons years later and became a member of Little Ruth Old Regular Baptist Church, she loved her church family. Mapel enjoyed fishing, quilting, sewing and gardening. She was a member of the quilting club in Haysi. She will be remembered with love for her sweet hospitality. She cherished time spent with family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Ms. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lassie M. Edwards in 1991, a daughter, Thanna J. Lancaster in 1987, a granddaughter, Victoria Jewell Arnold in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Y. Geiger and husband Michael, four sisters, Eulalia Lee and husband Earl, Ival Anderson and husband Banner, Betty Long and Nancy Edwards and husband Darvin, two brothers, Berchie Belcher and wife Nadean and Clayton Belcher and wife Lucille, six grandchildren, Tracy Turner and wife Heather, Dewayne Arnold and wife Monica, Billy Arnold and wife Stacey, Rebecca Adams, Murray Lancaster and Joey Lancaster and wife Shellie, 16 great-grandchildren, Blake, Bryce, Jewelia, Riley, Lilly, Aiden, Ava Marie, Mikey, Matthew, Mason, Luke, Alyssa, Megan, Coleton, Brittany and Tiffany and many nieces and nephews, loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Gordon Deel and Roger Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in John and Margie Belcher Cemetery, Haysi, VA.
