Des Plaines, IL. – Donald Glenn Yates, age 75 of Sycamore Street passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Harding and Lola Edwards Yates Hill. A 1957 Haysi High School graduate, he attended Clinch Valley College, was a member of the Army National Guard in Des Plaines and a retired manager of a plastic manufacturing plant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Sloan, two sisters, Manthalee Wallace and Janice Ruth Yates.
Survivors include a son, Todd Yates of Des Plaines, IL; a daughter, Teresa (Mark) Kalaher of Des Plaines, IL; a brother, Bill R. Yates of Clintwood, VA; sisters, Margaret Ann Sutherland of Lynchburg, VA, Paige (Mark) Slone of Robinson Creek, KY and Jewell (Don) Askins of Clintwood, VA; grandchildren, Jordan, Joanna and Mark Kalaher; and step brothers and sisters, Nan Edwards, Sue Phillips, Patricia Fields, Charlotte Edwards, Jeffery Hill, Junior Hill and Michelle Slone.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2014 at the Yates Cemetery, Clintwood, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. Friday at Haysi Funeral Home where a song service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
