Obituary for Charlie R. Blankenship

Charlie R.  Blankenship
Grundy, Va – Charlie R. Blankenship, age 70, of Sunset Hollow Road passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Dolphus and Vicey Deel Blankenship. A retired miner, he was a member of UMWA Local 7170 and a member of Little David Old Regular Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Louisa, Anna Belle, and Clarcey and brothers, Monroe, David, Joshua and Melvin.
Survivors include his wife, Elva Blankenship; a daughter, Barbara (Randall) Woods of Grundy, VA; a son, Deon (Daisy) Blankenship of Grundy, VA; step children, Sandra (Danny) Hurley of Hurley, VA, Diana Endicott and Rita (Greg) Oquinn both of Haysi, VA and Rocky (Pam) Yates of Abingdon, VA; sister, Vicey (Tootsie) Blankenship of Caney Ridge, VA; 5 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Little David Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Eddie Newsome, Buster Mullins, Danny Yates, and Ronnie Deel officiating.. Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery, Grundy, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
