Obituary for Hurley Cochran

Breaks, VA – Hurley Cochran, age 92 of King Solomon Highway passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 in Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Samuel P. and Elizabeth Viola Vanover Cochran. A US Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII, he had been parts manager for Haysi Chevrolet dealerships for 40 years, last working for Bartley Chevrolet. He was a member of American Legion John Ratliff Post 164 and a member of Breaks Church of Christ for 40 years. Hurley was an extraordinary outdoorsman and was devoted to his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Ruth Cochran; brothers, Bert, Vester, Tandy and Merville; sisters, Goldie Hurt, Rosa Gibson, Maxie Linville and Mabel Lowry; and a step daughter, Patricia Dotson.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; two daughters, Patricia (Sunny) Barton and Ann (Troy) O’Quinn both of Haysi, VA; a granddaughter, Stephanie (Greg) Wampler: a grandson; Jeremy (Crystal) O’Quinn; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Emily Wampler; two step daughters, Darinda (Carl) Hood of Big Stone Gap, VA and Jenny (Terry) Care of Las Vegas, NV; two step sons, J.P. (Teresa) Lockhart of Pikeville, KY and Chris (Judy) Lockhart, Breaks, VA; step grandchildren, Jared Hood, Laura Weeks, Diana Care, Jennifer Quillen, Jason Lockhart, Destiny Lockhart, Isaac Lockhart; step great grandchildren, Corrina Louise Hood, Norah Kate Weeks, Grace Quillen, Mason Quillen, Kerrigan Lockhart and Maura Lockhart; and sisters, Fern Taylor of Clintwood and Vonda Davis of Vida, OR.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Breaks Church of Christ with Clint Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill’s Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA. Military graveside rites will be conducted. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 on Saturday at Haysi Funeral Home with a service at 7:00. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
