Clintwood, VA – Nell Deel Belcher, age 90 of The Lake Road, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Clintwood, VA. Born March 26, 1924 on Neeley Ridge and making her home on Davis Ridge, she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah Farmer Deel. She was a homemaker and member of Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church for 14 years and was previously a member of Sandlick Primitive Baptist Church for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charlie Belcher, daughters, Phyllis Sluss and Loretta Cody, a son, Terry Belcher, grandson, Ronnie Sluss II, granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Sluss, a great-granddaughter, Veronica Saenz, sisters, Mary Moore, Olize Rose, Idabell Counts, Dolly Ball, Goldie Ellis, and Vernie Patton, and brothers, Arville, Burns and Emory Deel.
Survivors include a daughter, Sondra (Ronnie) Brown of Clintwood, grandchildren, Ronnie Lee (Sarah), Shane, and Dakota Brown, Chris, Michael (Claudia), and Jennifer Belcher, Angela (Mike) Meredith, Tammy Hall, Vanessa (Doug) Orrison, and Greg (Shirley) Cody, twenty one great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren and many very special nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her very special longtime friend and neighbor, Phyllis Ann Gilbert. Her passion was cooking and baking for everyone she knew and loved to watch people enjoy her food.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Sluss, Joe Glenn Sluss, James Clyde
and Danny Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Musick Cemetery, Clintwood. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Lee, Shane, and Dakota Brown, Greg Cody, Mike Meredith, Chris Belcher, Jeff Bowen, and Ronnie Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Sluss, Chase Meridith and Sean Meridith. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1 at the church where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
