Grundy, VA- Sarah E. Ratliff, age 92, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, VA. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Shad and Mary Ellen Ball Combs. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Edward Ratliff, four sisters, two brothers and a grandson.
Survivors include a son, Charles (friend Connie) Ratliff of Haysi, four daughters, Virginia “Sue” (Billy) Drake of Alabama, Shirley “Margaret” (Elbert) Shortridge, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Rodney) Owens and Peggy Carol (Tony) Viers all of Haysi, 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Alpha Duncan of Newport News and Mary Bevis of California, special caring friends, Edie Owens, Sue Rose, Buchanan General Hospital staff and Heritage Hall staff.
Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Avin Viers. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. prior to service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
