Obituary for Garnie Guy (Boyd)

Garnie Guy (Boyd)
Birchleaf, VA – Garnie Boyd Guy, age 80, died December 30, 2013, due to a long battle with lung cancer. She was born April 3, 1933, in Buchanan County, to Hollie and Gracie Thomas Boyd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Barbara Diane, her husband, James Hubert Guy, two brothers Oakie and Arnold Boyd and two sisters, Frankie and Georgie Boyd. She is survived by her son Mark Anthony Guy and wife Kim in Michigan and grandson, David James Guy serving in the U.S. Army; three brothers, Lonnie and Fonnie Boyd, Vansant, VA, and Harold Clyde Boyd, Alexandria, OH, and four sisters, Bobbie Ratliff, Haysi, VA, Betty Ball, Vansant, VA, Phyllis Corallini, Pickerington, OH, and Marlene Adams, Raleigh, NC, and lots of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Philip and Sandra Owens for their loving care and friendship given to our sister since August 2012. Garnie attended one room school houses during her elementary school years. She graduated from Council High in 1950 and moved to Michigan. She lived there for 40 years – in Detroit and Livonia, except for a couple years she and Jim lived in San Francisco, CA early in their marriage. Garnie worked for the Bell Telephone Company for many years. She loved yard/garage sales, buying and selling antiques, and planting flowers in her large flower garden. But above all else, she loved caring for her son Mark and grandson David James. Garnie and Jim moved back to Virginia at Gate City in the early 1990’s. Though she made many friends in Michigan, she has maintained long friendships with special friends Vera and Eldon Herron and Aletta and Chuck Holmes. To know Garnie was to love her. She was filled with the fruits of the spirit – love, joy, patience, faithfulness, kindness, and gentleness.
Arrangements are by the Haysi Funeral Home, 24682 Dickenson Highway, Haysi, Virginia. Viewing will be at the Big Fox Community Church December 31, 2013, Tuesday evening, 6:00 pm with a service at 7:00 p.m.. Services will follow Wednesday, 11:00 am at the Church.
