Author Carl O’quinn
Vansant, VA – Author Carl O’quinn, age 59 of G.P. Branch, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Pikeville Medical Center. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late James Monroe and Lydia Margaret Deel O’quinn. He was a disabled coal miner and was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Carl O’quinn and a brother, Jimmy Wayne O’quinn.
Survivors include his wife, Sue O’quinn, a daughter, Carolyn O’quinn (Jacob) of Haysi, VA, two sons, Author Jackson O’quinn of Haysi and Adam Shawn (Leigh Ann) O’quinn of Haysi, three brothers, Lee Vern (Eva) O’quinn of Haysi, Jackie D. (Barbara) O’quinn of Haysi, and Gary Lynn O’quinn of NC, a sister, Kathy Sue (Larry) Mattox of Louisa, VA, a grandson, Jeremiah Carl, and three granddaughters, Katilynn, Cheyenne, and Emily.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Little David Old regular Baptist Church with Elders David O’quinn, Eddie Newsome, Frank Newsome, and Danny Yates officiating. Burial will follow in the Bart Deel Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday and Monday after 6:00 p.m. at the church where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. both nights.
