Elder Freelin Yates
Haysi, VA – Elder Freelin Yates, age 98 of Apple Jack Road passed away at his home Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Whitten and Armindy Deel Yates, the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a retired coal miner, a member of UMWA Harman Local 7025 and a minister of the Old Regular Baptist of the Union Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Prudy Yates; sons, Percy and Esten Yates; and daughters, Polly Ann McClanahan, Delphia Kilgore, Darlene Yates and Norma Jean Yates.
Survivors include his wife, Emily O’Quinn Yates; a daughter, Edna (Late Roger) Colley; sons, Clinton (Kelsa) Yates and Basil (Barbara) Yates; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Roger Coleman, Toy Looney, A.B. Thacker and Mark Justus officiating. Burial will follow in the Yates Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. at the church Thursday and Friday evenings with service at 7:00 p.m. with Elders Ralph Mullins, Andy Deel, Jackie Yates, Aven Viers, Frank Thacker Jr. and Lloyd Brown officiating.
