Vansant, VA – Ernie Owens, age 46 of Squire Oak Road, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buchanan County, he was a son of Clyde and Flornia Compton Owens. He was of the Baptist faith and last employed as a carpenter. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Corbett and Effie Compton and his paternal grandparents, Noah and Hettie Owens.
In addition to his parents, survivors include two brothers, Marty (Anita) Owens and their children, Kristy and Kaitlyn, and Bryant (Linda) Owens and their children, Robert, Hannah, and Hunter, and special friends, Retha, David and Heather Gardner, and Mathew and Lori Gardner.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders James McClanahan, Eddie Newsome, and Jim Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Clyde Owens Cemetery, Vansant. Pallbearers will be Joshua McCowan, Robert Owens, Derek Blankenship, Ellis Dale, Bryant Owens, Steve Owens, and Jeff Stiltner. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 at the funeral home where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
