Haysi, VA – Elsie V. Compton, age 84 of Pleasure Drive, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at her residence. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late R.D. and Vadna Turner Viers. She was a homemaker and had worked as a Home Health aide, and attended Turner Old Regular Baptist Church since her childhood. Elsie was an avid gardener, a great cook and always made sure the community and churches had plenty to eat and a place to stay. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eivens L. Compton, a daughter, Judy Compton, brothers, Charlie Viers and Walter Viers, and sisters, Trula Colley, Maggie Rasnake, Patsy Viers, and Edith Viers.
Survivors include a son, Harold Eugene (Barbara) Compton of Roseville, MI, three sisters, Olive Watson of Bristol, VA, Fannie (Milton) O’quin of Haysi, and Mary Sue (Palmer) Woods of Haysi, two brothers, Pridemore (Laura) Viers of Haysi, Johnny (Joyce) Viers of Haysi, a sister-in-law, Midge Yates of Haysi, a niece and nephew whom she helped raise and called her own, Melena Charles and Randy Charles, and several other special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder A.L. Yates officiating. Burial will follow in the R.D. Viers Cemetery, Haysi. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Elder Roger Rose.
